AIRPORT CITY EXPRESS (Rock/Power Pop - BE)
Formed in 1999 by Brieuc Bauthier and Michaël Verbeeck, Airport City Express is a return to pop-rock grunge influenced by the masters of the lo-fi genre such as Grandaddy and Pavement. Originally an acoustic duo, ACE quickly slotted into the Jaune Orange collective, and honed their early concert sound via slices of folk guitar and mini-synth in songs evoking themes tied to sub-culture movies such as "Clerks". The group was later fleshed out and electrified to give them a bigger stage presence. After the EP "Away from the Weathering Sun", released in October 2008, today the band are preparing to release their next disc with new compositions that feature a more live sound, displaying the growing collective investment of the now quintet. If the lo-fi, destructured sound remains intact, the attention paid to the writing of these new songs indicates a new phase in the onward journey of ACE.
