Q-TIP (Hip-Hop - US)
A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip's first group, is no more: therefore, now is the time for "La Renaissance", the MC's first solo album in 9 years. This masterpiece, including participation from Norah Jones, D'Angelo and Raphael Saadiq, was released on 4 November 2008, the day Barack Obama was elected. For this occasion, the New York rapper dusted off his old files: snippets of upright bass and obscure jazz leading to a genuine sound renaissance. Recognised for a long time as a major talent, Q-Tip has made numerous appearances on albums of other artists, from Janet Jackson to Kanye West via Chemical Brothers and Korn, and has always wanted to break down the barriers between the different musical genres. Almost fifteen years of militant hip-hop has led to Q-Tip being considered as one of the best and most innovative artists in the history of the movement. His "Renaissance" marks the return of one of the most recognisable and individual voices in the whole of hip-hop.
