The revelation of 2010 with the underground hit “Without You”, named track of the year by the much referenced techno house site Resident Advisor, Art Department concentrate their efforts on bringing melody and pop themes back on the dance floor. This duo, formed by Canadian house pioneer Kenny Glasgow and No. 19 label boss Johnny White, bring on a new meaning to the term by replacing it with something closer to their roots between no-wave, post-funk and contemporary disco. Imagine the Cassius of 1996 remixing the Bauhaus of 1979, or if filter house met cold-wave and boosted bass sounds were mixed together with other-worldly vocals. This a common thread that can be found on “The Drawing Board”, a first intoxicating and dancey album with notable collaborations from Soul Clap, Osunlade and Seth Troxler.
