CARL BARÂT ( - UK)
Carl Barât, founding member and leader of The Libertines and then Dirty Pretty Things, made his breakthrough as a solo artist last year with a superb first eponymous album. With his long fringe, smirk and more intricate guitar work than ever, Barât brilliantly exploits his eloquence. A leopard can’t change its spots: he is still the Carl of The Libertines, the group that relaunched the English version of 60s sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. Far from repeating the same formula, he uses it as a mould for an album that inspires with its originality. It contains bar stories and pillow talk, viewed from a distance as whispered confessions. An album in the image of a rock star who, even though he has settled down, illuminates his first solo record with his talent. After the memorable appearance of Pete Doherty last year at the Ardentes, his alter ego’s appearance is set to be a new event not to be missed.
