The impressive label Hyperdub managed by Kode9 is, without contest, “The Holy Grail of future dubstep”. By signing artists like Burial, King Midas Sound and Ikonika, Hyperdub have defined the genre’s standards. With the album “North” from the trio Darkstar, they have released the most pop oriented album of their history. Darkstar have already reworked Radiohead’s “Videotape” (a version selected by the queen of dubstep and BBC presenter Mary Ann Hobbs) and The Human League’s “Gold”. Along with James Blake and Mount Kimbie, Darkstar are part of the royal circle of the post-dubstep wave. To conclude, their track “Aidys Girl Is A Computer” is a classic of the genre. For the rest, the trio has an excellent singer in James Buttery who gives fine substance to their electronic melancholy. For fun, last year, the BBC labelled Darkstar as “sadstep”!
