PALE GREY

Imagine Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett with Francoise Sagan’s haircut and Flipper the dolphin’s voice and this will give you a slight idea of what Connan Mockasin is like. This New Zealander, now living in London, composes disturbing and dreamlike music, organic and experimental, brilliant but never pretentious. Just like the mutant song “Forever Dolphin Love”: a ten minute trip full of groove, jazz and psychedelics with his ethereal voice over the top which borders on falsetto. The album lasts 36 minutes and resembles a jam session with MGMT, Radiohead and Jimi Hendrix on Bromazepam on guitar. A painter in his free time, Connan Mockasin sketches the contours of his own world; a strange and hospitable world. “His album is without doubt one of the most beautiful, strange, enchanting and passionate from the beginning of this year, the middle of this year and without a doubt, throughout the whole year”, said Les Inrocks. A fascinating and puzzling discovery to check out at the Ardentes.
